There is a societal pressure surrounding the way that we should feel when someone is no longer a part of our lives. I notice that we have been taught to resent a person for their faults when a connection takes two to maintain. I never understood why we felt the need to follow along with the way others taught us to feel, when it does not resonate with the way we feel ourselves. In the heat of the moment, we tend to forget that this same person was once a significant part of our lives and has changed us in ways that we never could have imagined.


Despite how the connection may have ended, you are not obligated to feel resentment towards this person. Instead, I hope you cherish the memories that you made with this person and express gratitude for the contribution they made to your life. I hope you take the lessons that you learned within the connection so you can further develop the bonds you currently have with your loved ones. I hope you find forgiveness in your heart and wish well for this person when you are no longer a part of their life. It is difficult to come to terms with this, but you will understand that this was supposed to happen so that the both of you can continue your lives with good grace.


I know that somewhere deep down, a person is still there even after experiencing battles that have wounded them more than they ever could have imagined. Rather than faulting them for what they were unable to give to you, try to understand where you lack within yourself.


I pray that we unlearn the things that have strayed us away from our true selves as we grew up, and that we go back to the person that we were before the world told us how we were supposed to be. Let’s fill our own cups with love so that we can heal, and eventually learn to heal others. In times like these, we could all use a little more love to get through each day.
