Live simply.

These are the two words that my father told me to always remember. This seems like an unattainable goal for many. People believe that to live simply, they must surrender to sacrifice. They are afraid of releasing attachment to the things that give them fleeting pleasure and happiness. Those that remain loyal to connections that serve no purpose remain stagnant with familiar habits and routine. These people fail to realize that living simply is not a sacrifice: it is a gain.

No person is safe from the external world. We live in an age where materialism is at its highest pinnacle. We are influenced by the things that others have, and we believe that these will fulfill us the same. When we finally acquire these things, we feel happiness for a short period of time until we are overcome with dissatisfaction and desire for more. We fall into this endless cycle of discontent where we forget to live solely for the purpose of living.

To live simply is to break free from the societal restraints that humanity has placed. To live simply is to choose gratitude over temporary bliss. To live simply is to fill our hearts with meaning and find our purpose.

I choose to live simply to remember the person I was before the world told me who I should be. I choose to live simply to connect with others and to help cultivate an impactful difference in their life. I choose to live simply, so that when I look up at the brilliant, blue sky, I will be able to remember my purpose in this life.

Live simply, to live for yourself.
