Psychologist Kazimierz Dąbrowski proposed “positive disintegration,” describing how emotional distress in an individual’s life is a potential sign of growth. For an individual to transform effectively, it is necessary to evaluate the psychological state that they are in. That is, an individual must focus on the pieces of their past to discover their potential in growth and the beauty of transformation.


It was no surprise to come across this concept in a time of uncertainty. I was experiencing a plateau: a time where progress was slowly creeping to a halt. Time was passing by quickly, and a big part of me deep down wanted it to slow down. I wanted to discover and implement the change that I knew was necessary to keep moving forward, but the plateau brought discomfort where I questioned whether I was doing enough to achieve what my heart desired.


The desire for progress can feel overwhelming, especially when a daily routine starts to become repetitive. You may feel as if what you are doing in the present isn’t enough. Our generation has been so caught up in becoming better versions of ourselves, that we take the journey which has brought us to this very moment for granted at times. We are so far ahead from our past selves, yet the dissatisfaction from the present still finds a way to intrude on the path of discovering the happiness we aspire for.


Experiencing each day, regardless of whether it stuck to the repetitive routine that we are accustomed to, still significantly impacts a change among ourselves. Time has its own beautiful way of passing by before our eyes, and you will look back in the past and realize how much clarity you have found in the present. The uncomfortable changes that you make will soon transform into better habits for your wellbeing. Learn to appreciate the process of growth in the duration of it, rather than appreciating it to satisfy the optimization for the desirable future.
