A friend once told me that we would feel young and old for the rest of our lives. That the memories of our childhood would remain alive as long as we continue to connect it with our present. I found that this was the key for tying everything together in a way which made sense to me, especially at an age where I am constantly evolving.
I was born at the heart of Michigan, but my life didn’t start until I was hundreds of miles away on the East Coast. I never would have imagined that riding my bicycle would help me find direction in the wind, and that the rhythm of my cruiser’s engine would become my heartbeat. The cassette tapes from my father’s childhood would not only become the music that I listened to as a child, but the music that helped change my life in my early twenties.
We feel young and old throughout our lives because the spirit that breathes life into us never truly leaves us. It is how we choose to not settle because deep down, we know that we are destined for more in this lifetime. Ultimately, it is what helps us feel each moment that passes by us on a deeper level—it is what makes our life so rich and meaningful for us to prevail.
